Struggling to squat low? Read below β¬οΈ for my tips
It’s all about the βπΌ and some serious squatting with this one in our tees @lukemarkkk ππΌ
π€ Are you squatting low enough?
Mobility is key and should be done before going into your big lifts (head over to @shepperton_physiotherapy for the full mobility exercises) A deep squat requires hip flexion. Tight and weak hips can inhibit you to squat low and cause compensation which leads to improper technique.
The same principle applies to ankle mobility. If you are unable to sit low into a squat and have poor ankle mobility, your knees knees will not track forward. If ankle mobility is the problem, try elevating your heels (I use the edge of an Olympic plate stand on which enables me to get deeper into a squat). If it’s your hips then hip flexor strengthening exercises and stretches will help improve a deeper squat. Sitting down for long periods of time will make your hips tighter. Try getting up every 20 minutes, even if it’s to walk around the kitchen and loosen off.

Firstly, I am grateful that the gym was super quiet and I was facing the wall for this exercise π So I totally understand if you want to practice my alternative to this exercise (see below) before you give this one a try. Also, the majority of the best Glute exercises aren’t discrete so it may be time to give no π©πππΌ
The main claim to fame of the frog pump exercise is how well it isolates and strengthens your glute muscles. Specifically, it engages your gluteus maximus (the largest butt muscle, which functions to extend your hips and rotate your legs outward) and gluteus minimus (the smallest of the glute muscles, which lies beneath the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius, and allows you to move your legs outward and rotate them
When glute muscles are strong, your balance improves, you have less pain, and have the added benefit of looking goof from behind π
Having strong glutes will allow you to safely complete not just your workouts but everyday activities as well!
Frog pumps also help you learn how to activate your glute muscles in the first place so you can get the most out of the movement and any other lower-body-focused exercise for that matter. Most people spend their day seated working in front of a computer, stuck in traffic, or sitting on the sofa and not engaging the their glutes at all. Long term, this can inhibit your ability to properly engage (and therefore recruit) all the muscles in your butt. Long term, this can lead to hip immobility, joint pain, and lower back aches or strains!
However, frog pumps can be used to retrain the body on how to engage those weak and tired glutes. Because your hips are in an externally rotated position, you’re able to activate your glutes to a greater degree. You can do these body weight, with a dumbbell on your hips or even put a band around your knees. Trust me your Glutes won’t be able to get away with this one π₯π

Step ups build endurance, strength, and mass in the Glutes and legs
As a resistance exercise of significant volume and a highly dynamic movement pattern, step-ups are excellent for building up strength and muscle mass in the lower body. This includes muscles like the quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings – of which are the three largest muscle groups found in the legs
Apart from general strength adaptation and muscular hypertrophy, step-ups are also great for training endurance in the lower body ππΌ
To truly gear the workout towards endurance, try programming step-ups with no weight or very light and a significant number of steps per set. Otherwise, performing the weighted variation is better for gaining muscle mass and strength π₯

Little tip for you if you’re wondering why I’ve not got any trainers on in the squat rack. If your trainers have a squishy sole it’s basically like trying to squat on a Bosu Ball or marshmallow. If you're training for maximum lifts, you want to have the greatest force transfer between you and the ground, so lifting in socks or barefoot reduces the loss of any force transfer through the soles of your shoes.
Give it a try. I also love wearing converse as they are flat and my Nike Metcons which are great for lifting too (these have a slightly raised heel in them to help with able mobility) ππΌ

I usually use Dove gradual tan but since they changed their formula it’s just not the same and so I was looking for a new one that didn’t smell of old biscuits and made me look like a satsuma so THIS has come at the per perfect time! This isn’t a sponsored ad I just wanted to share as I was shocked at how amazing the end result was.
I used the very dark shade but what I love is that I left it on for only 2 hours and it gave me the desired colour I wanted. So if you want to be even more sun kissed you can let yourself cook over night ππ

I know you have 10mins π Get your favourite tunes on, dance around your kitchen, go for a nice walk, release those endorphins which will elevate your mood, reduce anxiety and will make you feel 100% better!
Did you know?
Compared to a control group, overweight or obese women who were typically inactive increased their cardiovascular health by walking for only 10 to 15 minutes each day. In a separate study of sedentary men, it was discovered that a group who biked for 10 minutes at a moderate pace and then for 1 minute at a high intensity had the same effect on their oxygen uptake as a group that exercised for 50 minutes at a moderate pace. After the 12-week research, both groups had similar fitness gains and outperformed the control group!
